Hello everyone! Ever since kcanadensis  and I moved, we haven't been able to get outside quite as often... nevertheless, we've found some things, here and there.

Milkweed Pods, Seeds, Bugs

Milkweed pods and milkweed bugs! I just love distributing the milkweed fluff on windy days.

Darner!

Aeshna canadensis... darners aren't very common finds in autumn, so I feel lucky to have seen this guy. He was hanging out on a tree trunk, catching the late-afternoon October sun.

Small Nest

Lastly... a small bird nest. I think it belonged to a goldfinch... it was very daintily made, from thin grasses -- and lined with goatsbeard and/or milkweed fluff. Such a warm place to rear baby birds!

They're the best! Until the wind goes against you and blows the fluff into your face.. ;)

Birds nests are so amazing.. it's hard to believe how well-constructed they are. So perfect! Some birds even use spider web to hold their nests together. I think dragonfly eyes are one of the most beautiful things in the natural world... I miss dragonflies in the winter, but it's so exciting to see the first ones in the spring.
